Memorial Day Weekend | May 26-28, 2023
Unlike our Family Festivals, which come with organized activities and fully catered meals, our new Family Camping Weekend is meant to give families a more affordable way to enjoy the Wild + Free Farm Village.
The camping weekend is limited to 40 families and offers a few planned activities, such as zip-lining, a guided hike, an outdoor movie, and games, along with a basic food plan for the weekend. The cost is $250 per family with an optional meal plan you can add-on for just $60 per person.
The Family Camping Weekend is meant to give you plenty of free time to go hiking, play in the creeks, climb our mountains, and take in this gorgeous property with newfound friends. However, we'll still host a few planned activities for the weekend (subject to staff availability and weather):
Aside from our state-of-the-art bathhouses and WiFi on our lodge front porch, this is considered a primitive camping weekend, which means there is no access to refrigerators or even the lodge itself.
If you have special foods the need to be refrigerated, we encourage you to bring coolers packed with ice and store them in your tent or car, just as you would at any other campground or national park.
Because of the local wildlife, we encourage you to make sure all food is properly sealed and stored, just like any other camping trip.
You are invited to pitch your tent in one of our designated camping areas. We can accommodate pop-up campers; however, RVs are not permitted.
Here are the costs for the weekend:
Cancellation Policy: Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to any other event. This event will be held rain or shine.
You are welcome to bring your own food for the weekend (refrigeration not provided). However, we are offering a basic, optional meal plan you can add-on for $60 per person: You can choose the regular or vegan option and will be given a bracelet at check-in to collect meals during the weekend.
We'll provide the skewers needed to heat dinners over the campfire.
The Wild + Free Farm Village is located about an hour and a half west of Charlottesville, VA. One thing is for sure - there is no getting to Head Waters, Virginia without stunning views of the Allegheny Mountains!

Can we bring an RV?

Do you offer refunds?
Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to any other event. Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions to this policy, even with last-minute emergencies. The event will be held rain or shine.
Are pets allowed?
Outside pets are not permitted on the property, with no exceptions. Please see our additional guidelines at bewildandfree.org/guidelines.
What amenities are available?
We have electrical outlets in a central location near the campsites. WiFi access is available on the front porch of the lodge. However, there is no access to refrigerators or even the lodge itself.
What about restroom facilities?
We have new, heated bathhouses with showers near the camping village.
Please note:
We require all guests to sign liability waivers and photo release forms in order to participate. Here are some additional policies at the Farm Village.
